Facebook Instant Reply

Facebook Instant reply is a new feature that allows Page owners to create, save and then use custom, canned messages when communicating with people through Facebook Messaging.  This new addition will help law enforcement agencies that are not able to monitor their page 24 hours a day to send an immediate message to someone .  By creating this message, you are still interacting with your community as quickly as they can send a message.  Here is an example of a message we use at my agency,

"Thank you for contacting us. If this is an emergency, call 911.  If you need police assistance and this isn't an emergency, call our Dispatch at 323 887-1313.  We do not monitor 24 hours a day, but your message is important to us and we will get back to you as soon as we can."

Facebook only allows 250 characters, so make sure you craft your message within the allotted amount of characters.

To turn on Instant Replies click "Settings" at the top of your page and then select "Messaging" in the left column.  Under the "Instant Replies" heading, click the box next to "Enable Instant Replies to quickly respond to initial messages." Below "Your Reply," enter your Instant reply message and click "Save."

Facebook Saved Replies

Facebook offers a list of default replies that you can use immediately.  Click on the response of your choosing and it will instantly populate the "Write a reply" field.  Click the "Reply" button to send the message.  If you are unhappy with the default response, you can customize it or personalize it to your liking. If you want to create a message, click "Manage Replies" button, and then "Create Reply," and write your message.

You can add images in your replies by clicking the "Add Image" icon and upload a picture.  You can further customize your message by clicking on the "Personalize" icon and add the sender's name, the page name, your website address, or your phone number.

Once you've customized your message, click "Save Reply" to save the message.  To send a reply, select the message that was sent to you and select the desired response from your list of replies.

Saved replies are not sent automatically.  You must select the message you wish to send and send it manually.
